Vaccinium c. Elliot 1g
Vaccinium c. Elliot 1g
This highbush blueberry cultivar is valued not only for fruit production but also for ornamental purposes. Vaccinium 'Elliott' Blueberry is an upright shrub that grows up to 6 feet tall and 5 feet wide. A late-season variety, Vaccinium 'Elliott' Blueberry blooms in pale pink flowers in late spring, followed by clusters of tangy, medium to large, ½ inch, blueberries that ripen in August to September. These berries are firm, flavorful, and easy to pick. They are good for eating or cooking.
Throughout summer, Vaccinium 'Elliott' Blueberry maintains ovate medium-green leaves that, in fall, turn attractive shades of red, purple, and yellow orange. Bright burgundy stems add winter interest. The bush attracts birds and butterflies.
Blueberries are self-pollinating but planting two or more varieties with similar bloom times encourages cross-pollination, producing larger berries and larger yields. Planting early, mid-season, and late-fruiting varieties extends the blueberry season from early June to the end of the summer.
