Thymus praecox 'Purple Carpet'
Thyme 'Purple Carpet' is a low-growing, mat-forming variety prized for its vibrant display of tiny purple flowers and aromatic foliage. Though more ornamental than culinary, it still carries a mild thyme scent and can be used sparingly in cooking. This thyme excels as a ground cover, between stepping stones, or along garden edges, creating a dense carpet that suppresses weeds and adds texture.
Hardy in Northern Connecticut (Zones 5–6), 'Purple Carpet' thyme is a tough, drought-tolerant perennial that thrives in well-drained soil and full sun. Its mid-summer blooms attract bees and other pollinators, making it a valuable part of any edible or ornamental garden.
